SWAD RESTAURANT, THE ROYAL TASTE OF RIP OFF
“This is the worst service I have ever experienced in any restaurant in Johannesburg†– a report by another disgruntled customer on Hello Peter and to which I have to more than agree. Yesterday, I had the unfortunate experience of celebrating Mother’s Day at your restaurant and feel that we were ripped blind. It was an absolute disgrace. Apart from the atrocious service, the staff was left to apologise whilst I saw the managers sharing the “stash†between them. Not one of them came round to apologise or assist (obviously beneath them, only the reward is what counts) and after 3 hours we finally got our cold food, without some of the items, one being rice? (all of which were nonetheless charged for). We sat for all this time without even the basic sambals being provided and even when asking for them they were not forthcoming and no raita or chutney etc. They took our order for, did not deliver and eventually told us they had run out of samoosas, but kept us waiting nonetheless. The fish dish, one of the most expensive items on the menu was equally as disgraceful there being literally 4 small pieces of fish swimming in an enormous amount of gravy. On payment of the bill we were not even giving lousy peppermints, let alone anything in recognition or reminiscent of mother’s day – in fact there wasn’t even a vase on the table with a fake flower in it, it was like sitting at one of the original Fordsburg kitchen restaurants (where the décor was non existent but at least you were assured that the food was suburb) not in an upmarket restaurant in an upmarket area charging upmarket prices, but delivering downmarket service.
An entire table of 10 people walked out after having waited for the same length of time, having had only drinks and at least one other table also left. There were inadequate waiters only 2 for more than 100 people outside– at this stage the managers should have pulled up their sleeves and stepped in to assist not just wait greedily for the lolly.
There are several surrounding restaurants all of whom were equally as busy but adequately staffed and prepared for the rush. Every surrounding restaurant provided blankets and heaters so their patrons would not freeze. This did not occur to Swad. It was only after much begging and nagging and the threat of leaving (but bearing in mind there were only two waiters) that we finally managed to get them to put on a heater. I will never go back.
